Ladies and gentlemen, we are back by popular demand. Last year’s NBA Predict the Futures Contest was such a huge success, I’ve received tons of fan mail asking if I was going to host it again.
Okay, so only two people asked but still, it’s the thought that counts.
As most of you recall, prior to tip-off last season, I posted ten questions for all of you to answer, assigning different point values per question. Tophatal took home last year’s honors and is currently sporting some pretty cool SportsChump gear around Polk County, Florida. As a result, he’s very popular with the ladies.
This year’s format is similar, however, I am adding a few more questions, upping it to 20 to increase the difficulty. As usual, the winner will receive bragging rights for the year as well, as a fabulous SportsChump prize pack. Additionally, the good people at A&E Sports have graciously offered a “The World Series: History of the Fall Classic” Deluxe gift set as a grand prize and even though this it’s a baseball-related prize for a basketball pool, I figured you sports junkies wouldn’t mind much.
Since the season is already underway, the deadline to have your picks, entered in the comments section below, is 8 pm Friday, November 9, so act quickly and choose wisely. Best of luck!

Sorry, the Heat will win less than 66 1/2 games
Miami will repeat but I believe that during the season they will make a trade to simply make that roster better .
The team is capable of winning 65 -70 games but I believe their intent is a successful defense of their title !
MVP will be a three way shootout between Kobe , LBJ and Durant .
The East will once again come down to the Heat , and everyone else looking to pick up the morsel trail they will leave as a trail .
The Western Conference could very well be up for grabs , merely because of the trade made by the Thunder . The Spurs will play their part as usual , and notch another 50 plus win season ( does it get any better than that ). The Lakers for their part had better start to play defense . They look terrible at present and it has shown in their play . D How is not fully fit , and the rest of the team really do need to step up their game .

Curt Schilling money problems ? The DA from the state of Rhode Island is suing the player and his now bankrupt gaming company for the return of $75 million , after some irregularities came to light concerning the operations of the company , amongst other things .

Of the unbeatens in College Football , which teams do you believe profited the most from yesterday’s results ?
Well the NBA isn’t necessarily my thing but I’m in…

Tim from Sports Gluttony is in… with some interesting selections, I might add.
DeMarcus Cousins leading the league in double-doubles? Harden the league scoring leader AND the first to score 50? Pretty sure Houston would be okay with their investment if that’s the case.
I must say I do like your pick of Glen Davis as the first to be fined for flopping. I hope he doesn’t hurt the parquet floor.
Al…
I was all high and mighty on the Heat after watching what they did to the Celtics on opening night but then, what the hell was that dumpster fire they pulled against the Knicks?!?
And you are correct, sir. Just never can count out the ageless Spurs in the West.
Get your official picks in though, brother. You have a title to defend.
Dubsism is in… and apparently conflicted.
So the Heat are going to win over 66 1/2 games and NOT repeat?
The Spurs in the Finals? Interesting take.
Otherwise, I’d say he’s going chalk…. and stewing over the fact that there’s no hockey.
Al….
I’m behind on my reading. What happened with McGwire in St. Louis? God knows the Dodgers’ bats could use the help though. We’ll see if he’s the guy to make that happen.
Re: college football, this could be the season where we’d really benefit from a four-team playoff. It doesn’t look like ‘Bama, Notre Dame, Oregon or K State are going to drop a game.
Then what?
I was impressed with what I saw out of the Magic against Denver. Maybe all they needed was to get rid of the deadwood, aka Dwight Howard. Hey, if rookie head coach Jacque Vaughn can get that team to play with emotion, then I’m all for it… even if I can’t name a player on their roster.
Jed is officially in and going with the Thunder. I like it.
I’m interested in seeing how those guys are going to step up in Harden’s absence.
The four game playoff format for College Football isn’t for this year, but next year .
I’m still trying to figure what got McGwire’s nuts all heaved up in a bunch , for him to leave the Cardinals to make the jump to the Dodgers.
As for Curt Schilling , this guy is a ###king moron ! His company in essence defrauds the state of Rhode Island , and he is claiming that the AG (Attorney General) there , now wants their $75 million back , their action is politically motivated . LOL,LOL !!! Had he borrowed that money from the Mob, his dumb a#s would now be lying under several feet of concrete .
The Heat came out of the gate complacent , as champions . Now that they have a title to defend they should start to play a great deal better.
The Lakers will continue to look bad without Nash (bruised right leg and contusions) at the point guard position. Steve Blake just isn’t good enough .
That $80 million contract given to the Rockets’ James Harden might be one of the bargains of the season , given the productivity he’s provided for the team .
Doug Martin was all ” gangsta ” as the Bucs busted up the Raiders , upside the head . As usual the Raiders remains a real sorry as#ed team in every aspect of the game .
1) Heat can repeat as champions Yes
2) OKC will narrowly get by the Lakers and Spurs to represent the conference
3) Nets will make the playoffs but will not make it beyond the conference semis
4) Quite possibly as anything at .500 or slightly below or above in the East usually guarantees a berth . Besides the play in the conference has been mediocre .
5) Yes the Lakers are fresh out of choices , if they let Brown go
6) Durant the “Durantula ”
7) The Heat won’t be challenging the Bulls’ 72-10 season, but they will win in excess of 60 games .
8) Rondo , with Paul finishing second and D Wil also being in the mix
9)MVP LBJ
10) Kobe who else ? I mean what are the alternatives there at present ? D How ain’t cuttin it , in spite of the claims he’s the best center in the league .
11) Durant , as he’s due
12) Lakers slightly , the Clippers haven’t learned how to play aggressive defense , as of yet .
13) Damian Lillard
14) The Bobcats , please . It’s theirs to lose in spite of the NBA Draft . LOL,LOL,LOL !!!
15) & (16) Rajon Rondo
17) Hawks
18) Thunder , followed by Spurs and Lakers
19) If the rumors are to be believed , it will be mid January earliest or by no later than mid February . I’ll hedge and say February
20) Flopping isn’t allowed in the NBA ? I guess that means we’ll never see a number of these players appearing on DWTS (Dancing with the Stars) ?
Mr Flopsy himself has returned to the NBA .
Rasheed Wallace , as he’s now on the Knicks’ roster .
Will the Knicks get a special dispensation from AARP for having so many players on that team that are officially closing in on the age of retirement or meeting the criteria for their AARP card ?
Tophatal …….

Alrighty, Jamie from Dallas Sports Rant is in, giving us seven with plenty of time to play.
You know what amazes me, guys?
Blake Griffin is one of the more popular guys in the league and yet, most every one thinks he’ll be the first guy popped for flopping?
Don’t get me wrong, I know he flops a lot. I also understand the league might want to take a stand against a big name player when it comes to levying that first flopping fine?
But if he flops so much, why do we like him so much?
Yeah… It’s Scola because of the shitty hair style. He should get the first fine just for poor taste. (Actually, I am just pissed because the Spurs sent him to Houston so they could sign Tiaggo Splitter.) One of the few poor calls by Spurs management.
Faber…
Swing on by election central tonight if you’re out and about, just don’t expect to see hoops on the big screen.

Okay, Pest is in under the wire and I WILL give him credit for the Mike Brown answer as he got his answer in Thursday night before news of Mike Brown’s firing, HOWEVER, anyone who turns in their answers from here on out will be ineligible to receive points for the Mike Brown question.
‘Cause he’s gooooooooooooooooooooooone.
Alright, only ten participants as of yet. Thought we’d have more.
I also thought that Mike Brown question was a gimme.
Only three of got it right, me, Faber and Pest already taking those five points to the bank.
Dang it, I can’t believe I just saw your email as I was going through and deleting them! I’m sad I missed out on this.

That was Florida playing Missouri yesterday wasn’t it , and not some other defunct team ? That game put myself and the dog to sleep .
It’s hard what to make of the Magic at present . Your thoughts ?
Looking for a few good men
Tophatal ………..
Well the NBA isn’t necessarily my thing but I’m in…
1 point – Will the Miami Heat repeat as NBA Champions? NO
2 points – Which team will represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals? OKC
3 points – Will the Brooklyn Nets make the playoffs? YES
4 points – Will the Brooklyn Nets host a playoff series? NO
5 points – Will Mike Brown coach the entire season for the Los Angeles Lakers? YES
6 points – Who will lead the league in scoring? LEBRON JAMES
7 points – Will the Miami Heat win more or less than 66 ½ games? LESS
8 points – Who will lead the league in assists per game? RONDO
9 points – Who will win league MVP? DURANT
10 points – Who will lead the Los Angeles Lakers in field goal attempts? KOBE
11 points – Who will be the first player to score 50 points in a game? DURANT
12 points – Which Los Angeles team will boast a better record: Lakers or Clippers? LAKERS
13 points – Who will win rookie of the year honors? ANTHONY DAVIS
14 points – Which team will finish with the worst overall record? WIZARDS
15 points – Which player will lead the league in double-doubles? RONDO
16 points – Which player will lead the league in triple-doubles? RONDO
17 points – Which team will finish with the third best record in the East? BULLS
18 points – Which team will finish with the second best record in the West? LAKERS
19 points – What month will Derrick Rose return to play his first game for the Bulls? FEBRUARY
20 points – Who will be the first player fined (second violation) for flopping? COUSINS
Something old, something new, something borrowed though not necessarily blue
Tophatal ……..

Oh yeah…. the dunks.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5oZ-BbCVk0
Yeah… It’s Scola because of the shitty hair style. He should get the first fine just for poor taste. (Actually, I am just pissed because the Spurs sent him to Houston so they could sign Tiaggo Splitter.) One of the few poor calls by Spurs management.
Faber…

I did my best to give you notice, brother.
