3 Replies to “The Bracket”

  1. Steely Dan, Little Feat, Alabama (country band) & B-52’s made the cut but you left out the Foo Fighters, Pantera, Counting Crows, Soundgarden, & what about James Brown?!? James always had an amazing band, that was half of the show…

  2. My dearest Melissa…

You are the second person to complain about me leaving the Foo Fighters off the list.

I’ll say to you what I said to them, which will also be addressed in the follow-up post listing the bands that made it to round two and those that did not.

Name a west coast band that should not have been in that bracket in place of the Foo Fighters and I’ll gladly listen to your argument. But you have to remove one first.

After all, that is the objective of this post. To generate conversation.

And regarding Mr. Brown. The reason I didn’t include the Godfather of Soul is that he had so many interchangeable parts backing him over the years, from the Famous Flames to the J.B.’s to their replacements that I felt he wasn’t a band as much as he was a bandleader.

That being said, I think we can both agree that James Brown was among the most influential musicians ever.

    And most certainly the funkiest.

  3. The Foo Fighters are definitely top 5 greatest American rock bands in the history of rock music. They belong in the same league as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as well as The Doors. Pair them with The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. The Foos never sold out and they are musicians who llove to play, which makes them incredible artists. Ive been to two showS, and both were amazing. The Foos deserve inclusion.

Have you heard Dave Grohl wail on the drums?
