Life brings with it certain time-honored traditions. Thanksgiving dinner with the family, Easter egg hunts with the kids and my annual NFL over/under contest. This will be the contest’s eighth year running. I am humbled.
As is tradition, I like to give previous winners their proper shout out for a) they took the time to enter the contest and b) it’s only fair that their greatness be recognized: Hanahan, Ravenous, SpeedBeagle, Buck Fenson, SportsAttitudes and even yours truly. My good friend KP won last year proving that blind squirrels do occasionally find nuts. No participant has ever won this contest twice and the all-time high score still belongs to Ravenous who one year picked an impressive nine of his ten winners correctly totaling 54 out of 55 points.
Previous winners are all wearing fancy SportsChump t-shirts mainly because I can’t afford to give away cars. I have a few more (shirts, not cars) to give away and other prizes to be named later but first, the rules.
We’ve all been here before. Every year, prior to the NFL season, Las Vegas releases projected win totals for each team. Your job is to pick ten teams and assign them confidence points based on which teams you think will finish with either more (or fewer) wins than Vegas has predicted. Assign them confidence points in the comments section below with ten being the most and one being the fewest.
Since it is another time-honored tradition to pick on the Miami Dolphins, let’s do just that. The Dolphins’ over/under win total for the season (see below) is six-and-a-half games. (Again, newbies. Half games are to avoid a push.) If you are confident that the Dolphins won’t amass seven wins this season – and why wouldn’t you be – you would assign them ten confidence points and under six-and-a-half. Then assign nine confidence points to the team you’re second most confident will win either over or under their projected number. For your tiebreaker, include how many combined wins the three Florida teams (Miami, Tampa Bay and Jacksonville) will have by season’s end.
Here are the projected win totals according to Vegas. You have until kick off of the first game, Thursday Sept 6, to get your entries in. Good luck, everyone, and happy wagering!

Good to hear from you, sir. Hope all is well.

I won my Sportschump T-shirts from other, more challenging contests 😉
Ravenous and Tree are both in. Meanwhile, Bleed awaits basketball season.
That gives us almost six. Will be six when I get mine in. I’m sure we’ll have a few stragglers coming in at the last minute.
Speaking of basketball, Bleed, have you seen highlights of this Zion kid from Duke? Frightening!
Zion is a fucking beast.
Saw him a couple years ago when the local Lakers channel was airing a bunch of the 3 Ball kids Chino Hills high school games. He torched LaMelo back then. Looks like he’s only gotten bigger and stronger since. He could be like a linebacker. Dude’s like 6″-7″ 285lbs and his vertical is absolutely filthy. Defies physics. We’ll be hearing plenty more from him.
Next LeBron?
